A Month of Single Frames is a collective that brings artists' moving image into conversation through film programming, an annual journal and artist moving image production. Taking its name from Lynne Sachs and Barbara Hammer's collaborative film, the nature of our programming reflects their ethos as filmmakers by screening artists' works together for double-bill screenings, exploring a range of contemporary social, political, and environmental themes

We aim to introduce artists’ moving image and experimental cinema to audiences who may not have encountered work of this kind before. By pairing films we hope to draw out connections between the works and bring the artists into dialogue with one another, highlighting the collaborative and inherently collective nature of artist filmmaking.

Whether through production, exhibition, or curatorial and critical writing, our desire is to highlight the interconnected practices that define artist filmmaking and foster a space for greater engagement with artists’ moving image. We are particularly interested in dialogue around what it means to be an artist working with the moving image in the UK and internationally today, and want to offer a forum for discussing how work is funded, created, seen, and cared for. With a keen focus on artists' collaboration, we aim to present four screenings a year and publish an annual journal to coincide with our last screening of the year.
